Secrets To The Success of World-Class Musicians

Music Fundamentals

Make your RHYTHM stronger. Refine you PITCH. Fill in the gaps of MUSIC THEORY and watch your music making really take off.

Music Fundamentals Course

This training is often missing in music lessons because teachers only have enough time to focus on instrumental (or vocal) technique, which is complicated enough. Consequently, these fundamentals are often left to “talent”.

You don’t need talent – you need good information and good training.

There are three parts to the Music Fundamentals Course: Rhythm, Pitch, and Theory. You can participate in just one part, any two parts, or all three parts at the same time.

Each class focuses on a specific melody or piece. For example in the second week of the Music Fundamentals Course Level 1 you learn the beautiful folk song, Amazing Grace.

In the Rhythm Class you learn that the “pick-up notes” in Amazing Grace perfectly illustrate the principle of “anacrusis.” With a few simple exercises you will put anacrusis to work for you to establish a powerful sense of forward momentum and rhythmic clarity in all your music making.

In the Pitch Class you learn to sing and play Amazing Grace with the right notes and you will learn how to understand those notes so that you can play it in any key.

In the Theory Class you learn that Amazing Grace is a “pentatonic” melody and you will learn what that means and how you can use that knowledge to immediately begin to improvise and compose your own music.

All three classes work independently and they work even better together.

Rhythm, Pitch, Theory

Rhythm

All Music is Dance Music! All good music dances, and any music that does not dance is not good!

Pitch

The beauty of the melodies you love is hidden in the notes of the major scale and the magical ways they relate to each other. You will learn to hear the notes on a page of music without an instrument – that is true music reading! – and you will learn how the notes of your favourite melodies relate to each other so that you can play any melody you want on your instrument – in any key!

Theory

The more we understand about music the more we can enjoy it. As this course demystifies the simple underlying structures of the music you play,  you will have much deeper and rewarding experiences.  The music you love will become easier to play, easier to memorize, and you will have the knowledge you need to improvise and compose your own music.
